Auggies nearly knock off No. 10 St. Thomas

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg University women's basketball team nearly posted one of the biggest wins in school history, but a University of St. Thomas three-pointer in the final seconds forced overtime, where the Auggies fell 70-66 to the league-leading Tommies in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies nearly handed St. Thomas its first conference loss of the season. Augsburg led 62-58 after a pair of free throws by Arianna Jones (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) with eight seconds to play. The Tommies converted on 1-of-2 free throws on their next possession to cut the Augsburg lead to three. The Auggies had a shot at a pair of free throws, but couldn't convert on either and St. Thomas hit a big three-pointer as time expired to force overtime. St. Thomas ended the game on a 6-0 run to steal the win from Augsburg.
• Four Auggies scored in double figures, led by Camryn Speese (SO, Bloomington, Minn./DeLaSalle HS), who scored 19 points and added a team-best eight rebounds. Speese finished 5-of-9 from the floor and 9-for-10 from the free-throw line. 
Tamira McLemore (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) and K'Aezha Wubben (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS) finished with 13 points apiece. McLemore picked up a game-high five steals, while adding four rebounds. Wubben was 5-for-8 from the floor and added three boards and three steals.
Arianna Jones (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) added 12 points, while dishing out a team-best three assists. 
Jazmyn Solseth (FY, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) added four points and two blocked shots, while Aiza Wilson (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) chipped in five points.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 36.8 percent (21-of-57) from the field, while St. Thomas converted on 44.4 percent (24-of-54) of its shot attempts.
• The teams finished with 37 rebounds apiece, while Augsburg claimed a 19-12 advantage in points off turnovers.

 FOR THE FOES
• St. Thomas was led by a 27-point, 13-rebound effort from Hannah Spaulding.
• Lucia Renikoff added 15 points, while Lauren Fisher pulled down 10 rebounds for the Tommies.
• St. Thomas is ranked No. 10 in the latest D3hoops.com Division III national poll and No. 11 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division III national poll.
