Lacrosse squad drops opener in California

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Surrendering 13 goals in the second half, the Augsburg University women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-5 decision to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in the first game of the Auggies' spring break trip to Southern California on Monday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The game was tied at 1-1 early, but Pomona-Pitzer used a series of scoring runs to pull away from the Auggies -- a 4-0 run in the first half, and runs of four, five and four goals in the second half.
Delaney Everett (SR, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) scored two goals for Augsburg, adding three draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Izzy Snow (JR, Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) scored a goal with two assists, a ground ball and a caused turnover, and Helena Nguyen (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) scored a goal with an assist.
• Allie Tuccitto (FY, Rosemount, Minn./Eastview HS) scored a goal and added a draw control.
• Ellie Tabaka (FY, Maplewood, Minn./Tartan HS) contributed three draw controls, while Christina Nelson (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) had two draw controls.Annika Hegrenes (SO, Maplewood, Minn./Concordia Academy HS) had a ground ball and a caused turnover.
• Goalie Maddie Seykora (FY, Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) had 16 saves, along with two ground balls and a caused turnover.
• Pomona-Pitzer outshot Augsburg by a 40-18 margin. The Sagehens collected 17 ground balls to Augsburg's eight, and had 16 draw controls to Augsburg's nine.

FOR THE FOES

• Sonia Olson scored five goals to lead Pomona-Pitzer, while Lily Thomey scored three goals with an assist and a draw control. Sophie Hubbel scored two goals with five assists and five draw controls, and Sophia Silane scored three goals.
• Annie Price had eight saves in goal for the Sagehens.
