WHITTIER, Calif. -- The Augsburg University women's lacrosse team capped its three-game trip to California with a victory on Thursday, scoring a 9-8 win at Whittier College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Tied 6-6 at halftime, the Auggies pulled ahead with two goals fromÂ
Helena Nguyen (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) in a four-minute span midway through the second half. Whittier cut the Augsburg lead to one goal with 4:40 left, but could not get the tying goal past Augsburg goalieÂ
Maddie Seykora (FY, Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS).
• Nguyen scored four goals -- her 13th career game scoring four or more goals -- to lead the Auggies. She added three ground balls and a caused turnover.

Izzy Snow (JR, Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) scored two goals with an assist, adding three ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control.

Demey Everett (SO, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) scored two goals with a ground ball and caused turnover, and
Mikayla Jones (SO, Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) scored a goal wtih two assists, four ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Delaney Everett (SR, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) claimed seven draw controls, three ground balls, two caused turnovers and added an assist.
Christina Nelson (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) had four ground balls and two caused turnovers, Citaly Escobar (FY, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) had three ground balls and two caused turnovers, and
Annika Hegrenes (SO, Maplewood, Minn./Concordia Academy HS) had two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
• Seykora had nine saves in the game, including six in the second half. She added three caused turnovers and a ground ball.
• Augsburg and Whittier each had 23 shots in the game. Augsburg had 31 ground balls to Whittier's 24, and had a 13-6 advantage on draw controls.
FOR THE FOES
• Lexie Meanor scored four goals with five ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Emily Hansen scored three goals with seven ground balls, five draw controls and caused turnovers.
• Madison Topping had eight saves in goal for the Poets.
