Auggies dominant in victory over Northwestern

MINNEAPOLIS -- Behind five goals from Izzy Snow (JR, Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) and four goals from Demey Everett (SO, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS), the Augsburg University women's lacrosse team dominated from start to finish in a 17-4 nonconference win over the University of Northwestern-St. Paul on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg held the lead for all but the opening 71 seconds of the game, scoring eight of the first nine goals and leading 10-2 at halftime. Augsburg outshot Northwestern by a 39-12 margin, including a 25-5 advantage in the first half.
• Snow recorded her second five-goal game of the season and added an assist for a six-point night, just a point off her career-high. It's the seventh time she has scored four or more goals in a game in her career. Snow added three ground balls and three caused turnovers in the game.
• Everett claimed career-bests in both goals and points, with four goals and an assist for a five-point night. She added two ground balls in the win.
• Defender Christina Nelson (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) had a dominant evening, collecting a career-high eight draw controls, while tying a career-high with six ground balls and adding five caused turnovers. Delaney Everett (SR, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) scored two goals, while adding six draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover.
• Tehya Reinbold (FY, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) scored two goals with an assist, and Helena Nguyen (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) scored a goal with an assist, as did McKenna Ellena (FY, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) and Mikayla Knudson (SO, Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River HS). Knudson also contributed six ground balls and five caused turnovers.
• Mikayla Jones (SO, Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) scored a goal with three ground balls and three caused turnovers, and Annika Hegrenes (SO, Maplewood, Minn./Concordia Academy HS) had an assist, three round balls and three caused turnovers. Madison Valiant (FY, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) had an assist, four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
• Goalie Marissa Guillou (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had eight saves in 50 minutes of work, with Maddie Seykora (FY, Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) playing the final 10 minutes in relief.
• Augsburg was dominant in virtually every category in the game. The Auggies had 34 ground balls to the Eagles' 17, and had a 15-8 advantage in draw controls. Augsburg also claimed 13 clears on 17 attempts, compared to 11-of 33 for Northwestern. The Auggies also converted four of their six free-position shots.

FOR THE FOES
• Talia Sherry scored two goals with an assist, adding two draw controls, two caused turnovers and a ground ball. Hannah Shands scored a goal with five ground balls, four caused turnovers and three draw controls.
• Annie Ellis scored a goal with a draw control. Kayla Gryniewski had six ground balls and four caused turnovers, Annika Horning had four ground balls and three caused turnoves, and Logan Retzlaff had four ground balls with two caused turnovers.
• Sydney Werlein had 13 saves in goal for the Eagles, adding three ground balls and a caused turnover.

• Augsburg returns to Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference action with a pair of games this weekend at Edor Nelson Field, hosting Cornell (Iowa) on Saturday (3/24) at 12 p.m., and Beloit (Wis.) on Sunday (3/25) at 12 p.m.
