Nguyen has record-setting effort in Augsburg win

MINNEAPOLIS -- Helena Nguyen (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) set a single-game school record with an eight-point performance and tied a single-game school record with seven goals, leading the Augsburg University women's lacrosse team to a 16-3 win over Cornell College (Iowa) in a Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Nguyen scored six of her seven goals in the first half, as Augsburg built an 11-1 halftime advantage. She then had a goal and assist in the second half to set a new single-game points mark with eight, breaking the old mark of seven points, which had been set seven previous times in program history. Her seven goals ties the single-game school mark, first set by Delaney Everett (SR, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) in a 2016 game.
• In addition to her seven goals and an assist, Nguyen claimed three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the game. Nguyen currently leads the MWLC's overall statistics in goals with 22, and is tied for the conference lead in points with 25. She also currently holds Augsburg's career records for both goals (131) and points (157).
• Augsburg held the lead for all but the opening 80 seconds of the game, with the Auggies holding a double-digit lead for the entire second half, played under the NCAA's running-time rule. The Auggies outshot the Rams by a 22-7 margin in the first half, en route to a 38-12 advantage in the contest.
• Everett scored three goals, while collecting two draw controls, five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
• Defender Christina Nelson (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) claimed a career-high 11 draw controls, the third-most in a single game in school history. She added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
• Izzy Snow (JR, Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) scored a goal and added three assists for a four-point afternoon, adding two ground balls and a caused turnover.
• Demey Everett (SO, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) scored two goals with two ground balls and two caused turnovers, and Mikayla Knudson (SO, Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River HS) scored two goals with three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
• Tehya Reinbold (FY, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) scored a goal with two ground balls, and McKenna Ellena (FY, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) contributed three daw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover.
• Goalie Marissa Guillou (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had four saves in 45 minutes of work, with Maddie Seykora (FY, Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) playing the final 15 minutes with one save.
• For the second straight game, Augsburg was dominant in virtually every category. The Auggies claimed 16 draw controls to Cornell's four, and converted 7-of-12 clearing attempts, compared to 12-of-27 for Cornell. Augsburg also had 28 ground balls to Cornell's 20.

• Vaughn Zittle scored two goals with three ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control, while Caitlyn St. Marie scored a goal.
• Nalani Amsden had four ground balls adn four caused turnovers, and Lexi Dettbarn had three round balls, three caused turnovers and two draw controls. Emily Beehler had four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
• Kayla Boyd had 10 saves in goal for Cornell.
