Auggies pull away in 2nd half for conference win

MINNEAPOLIS -- Pulling away from a one-goal lead at halftime, the Augsburg University women's lacrosse team outscored Beloit College 12-3 in the second half, en route to a 17-7 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference victory on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The game was a close one in the first half, with the teams exchanging leads five times. Augsburg led 5-4 at halftime. The Auggies took command of the action in the second half, outshooting Beloit by a 28-8 margin, part of a 42-17 shots advantage in the game. The Auggies also dominated in the center, claiming a 22-4 advantage in draw controls -- including a 14-2 advantage in the second half.
• Helena Nguyen (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) concluded her impressive weekend with a five-goal, one-assist effort. Combined with her school-record eight-point (seven goals, one assist) performance in Saturday's win over Cornell (Iowa), Nguyen had a 14-point weekend, scoring 12 goals with two assists. Nguyen leads the MWLC's overall statistics in both goals (27) and points (31).
• Izzy Snow (JR, Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) also scored five goals with an assist for the Auggies, adding a caused turnover. Snow also had a solid weekend, with six goals and four assists for 10 points.
• Defender Christina Nelson (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) matched her career-high from Saturday with 11 draw controls in Sunday's win, adding four ground balls and three caused turnovers to spark Augsburg's transition game.
• Delaney Everett (SR, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) scored a goal with two assists, adding eight draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
• Mikayla Knudson (SO, Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River HS) scored three goals with a caused turnover, and Mikayla Jones (SO, Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) scored two goals with three draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover. 
• Demey Everett (SO, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) scored a goal with two ground balls and a draw control, and McKenna Ellena (FY, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) had an assist with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
• Goalie Marissa Guillou (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had four saves in the win.

FOR THE FOES
• Nicole Dolcimascolo scored three goals for the Buccaneers, adding three draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Fiona Milchman scored two goals with three ground balls and a caused turnover.
• Morgan Nicholson scored a goal with three caused turnovers, four ground balls and a draw control. Olivia Nasatir scored a goal, Melinda Balades had five ground balls and five caused turnovers, and Kaitlyn Tomasin-Erickson had four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
• Alexa Aarakelian had 11 saves in goal for Beloit.
