MINNEAPOLIS -- Taking advantage of clutch hits in both games, the Augsburg University softball team scored a doubleheader sweep of Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Sunday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• The game was a close one throughout, but single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, along with a five-run seventh inning, gave the Auggies the lead for good.
• Augsburg sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the seventh and scored five runs on three hits, the key hits a two-run double by
Taylor Mattice (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Centennial HS) and a three-run triple by
Anesia King (SO, Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS).
• The Auggies broke a 3-3 tie in the fourth inning, as King singled home
Carly Dropik (JR, Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS), who had walked and stole second. In the fifth,
Shannon Dale (SO, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) doubled and her pinch-runner,
Kate Stehr (SO, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS) scored after a fielding error.

Samantha Anderson (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) claimed the complete-game victory in the pitching circle, striking out three while walking three and allowing six hits.
• An RBI single by
Katie Parker (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) and an RBI groundout by Dale gave the Auggies two runs in the first, and Parker scored a run after Dale reached base on an error in the third.
• King went 3-for-3 with four RBI in the first game, while Dale went 2-for-4.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Macalester held a 4-3 lead after five innings, but Augsburg scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead to stay. Relief pitcher Anderson then retired the Scots in order in both the sixth and seventh innings, with two strikeouts, to pick up her second victory of the day, improving to 8-4 on the season.

Nell Gehrke (SO, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) led off the sixth with a single, and came around to score on a RBI double by King. With two outs, Parker hit her second home run of the season, a shot to left field, to give the Auggies a 6-4 advantage.
• An RBI double by Anderson and an RBI single by Dale gave the Auggies a 2-0 lead in the first inning, and the Auggies scored a run in the fourth, as Mattice singled and eventually came around to score on an RBI single by King.
• Anderson struck out four while walking one and allowing just one hit in 3.1 innings of relief to gain the victory. Starter
Morgan Malley (JR, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) pitched 3.2 innings, also allowing just one hit.
• King went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Anderson, Dale and
Jacquline Nichols (JR, Royalton, Minn./Royalton HS) had two hits each.
FOR THE FOES
• Claire O'Connor went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI double for Macalester in the first game, while Audrey Meade went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
• Both Macalester pitchers had complete-game efforts, with Sophie Migacz striking out five in the first game and Emily Cekander striking out three in the second game.
