Auggies open UW-Eau Claire meet with victory

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- The Augsburg University volleyball team opened its competition at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament with a four-set victory over Edgewood College on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• As a team, Augsburg hit .243, its ninth match hitting better than .200 this season. Meanwhile, the Auggies converted nine team blocks -- its seventh match with six or more team blocks -- which helped to limit Edgewood to a .071 attack percentage. The Auggies forced the Eagles into negative hitting percentages in both the second and fourth sets.
• Setter Morgan Malley (SR, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) claimed her fifth assist-dig double-double on the season and 32nd of her career, collecting 39 assists and 16 digs, while also contributing three kills and a block assist.
• Corrina Evans (SO, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) led the Auggie attack from the middle, connecting on a season-best 14 kills and a .423 attack percentage (three errors in 26 attempts), to go along with three block assists. It's the 10th time she's recorded 12 or more kills in a match in her career.
• Megan Quam (JR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had 10 kills, her third double-digit kill effort of the year, to go along with four block assists. Kayla Gjerde (FY, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) claimed eight kills, 12 digs and a block assist, and Jade Boysen (FY, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had a team-best six blocks (one solo), to go along with seven kills. 
• Libero Macey Terhell (SR, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) claimed 20 digs -- her fourth straight match with 20-plus digs -- and Stephanie Hechsel (SR, Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS) claimed a team-best three service aces.

FOR THE FOES
• Mackenzie Doherty recorded 10 kills and nine digs for Edgewood, while Cole Jordee added eight kills.
• Alex Zapuchlak recorded 19 assists with nine digs, and Brittany Sager had 1 assists and 12 digs.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg takes on Lakeland (Wis., 10 a.m.) and North Central (Ill., 2 p.m.) in the second day of the tournament on Saturday (9/15) in Eau Claire, Wis.
