Strong offense leads Auggies to 3-0 finish

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- The Augsburg University volleyball team finished 3-0 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament with three-set sweeps of Lakeland University and North Central College (Ill.) on Saturday.

THE BASICS AGAINST LAKELAND
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg def. Lakeland (Wis.) 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-16)
LOCATION: McPhee Physical Education Center, Eau Claire, Wis.
RECORDS: Augsburg 10-2 overall, Lakeland 7-5 overall

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Augsburg offense was clicking on all cylinders in its three-set sweep of Lakeland, hitting at an impressive .414 percent, the second time this season the Auggies have hit better than .400. 
• The Auggies offense was led by Corrina Evans (SO, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) and Megan Quam (JR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) who had 13 and 11 kills respectively. Evans added three digs and a block, while Quam had three digs, two solo blocks and a service ace. 
• Sydnie Zachary (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson HS) had a match-best 10 digs, also chipping in seven kills, two blocks and an ace. 
• Morgan Malley (SR, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) finished with 39 assists, while picking up three kills and adding six digs and a block. 

FOR THE FOES
• Lakeland was led by Shelby Welsh, who finished with 11 kills, while adding seven digs. 
• Neenah Primas dished out 23 assists for the Muskies, while Brianna Johnson and Emma Bruder had nine digs each.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• For the sixth time this season, the Auggies were able to sweep their opponent in straight sets. Augsburg posted a 43-31 advantage in kills, a 60-51 advantage in digs, a 42-31 advantage in assists and a 14-2 advantage in team blocks.
• Outside hitter Kayla Gjerde (FY, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) recorded her second kill-dig double-double of her debut collegiate campaign, collecting 10 kills with a season-best 14 digs.
• Sydnie Zachary (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson HS) also had 10 kills for the Auggies, while Corrina Evans (SO, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) notched nine kills and added five blocks (one solo). 
• Posting a career-high and match-best seven blocks, Jade Boysen (FY, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) played a critical part in the Auggies' strong defensive game. Megan Quam (JR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) contributed five blocks as well. 
• Morgan Malley (SR, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) continues to play well, claiming another assist-dig double-double (sixth of the season, 33rd of her career) with 33 assists and 15 digs, which were both match-best. Malley also had four kills and three blocks. 

FOR THE FOES
• Both Kaitlyn Boelter-Eberhardt and Sarah Geosling had team-best nine kills for North Central.
• Kaylee Allensworth posted 14 digs for the Cardinals, while Kiarah Horn tallied 25 assists. 
UP NEXT
• Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (9/19) at 7 p.m., traveling to Winona, Minn. to take on St. Mary's University in MIAC play.
