Zachary, Gjerde lead Augsburg past Concordia

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Augsburg University volleyball team was led by Sydnie Zachary (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson HS) and Kayla Gjerde (FY, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) in an important 3-0 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall. 

THE BASICS 
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg def. Concordia-Moorhead 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-21)
LOCATION: Si Melby Hall, Minneapolis, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 13-2 overall (2-1 MIAC), Concordia-Moorhead 5-11 overall (1-2 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg came out with its foot on the gas and never let up, completing its fourth straight sweep and fifth straight victory.
• Zachary had a kill-dig double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs. Gjerde also had 10 kills for the Auggies -- her 10th time reaching double-digit kills this season -- while chipping in six digs, three blocks and an ace.  
Megan Quam (JR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) tallied nine kills, hitting at a team-best .333 clip, adding two digs and two block assists. 
• Anchoring the Augsburg defense was Macey Terhell (SR, Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) who finished with 19 digs. Terhell also had four assists and an ace. 
Morgan Malley (SR, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) handled the setting duties, dishing out 30 assists, while picking up eight digs, four kills, a block and an ace. 
• Adding an impressive match-high six blocks (one solo) was Corrina Evans (SO, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS), while adding four kills.

FOR THE FOES
• Brianna Carney paced the Cobbers, finishing with a match-best 11 kills, while adding five blocks (2 solo). 
• Defensively, Casey Coste and Kortney Carney picked up 17 and 13 digs respectively. 

UP NEXT
• Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (9/26) at 7 p.m., when the Auggies continue MIAC play hosting St. Catherine at Si Melby Hall.
