Augsburg falls to No. 9-ranked Saint John's

MINNEAPOLIS -- Outgained by a 498-to-137 margin, the Augsburg University football team dropped a 52-0 decision to nationally-ranked Saint John's University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint John's, ranked No. 9 in the latest D3football.com Division III national poll and No. 10 in the latest American Football Coaches Association Division III national poll, scored on its first five drives of the first half, with four touchdowns and a field goal, to build a 31-0 halftime lead. 
• Augsburg used an onside kick to start the second half and a wide-receiver option pass to get the ball down to the Saint John's 24-yard line, but the drive stalled and the Auggies turned the ball over on downs. The Auggies also gained the ball four times on Johnnie fumbles in the second half, but were unable to convert any drives into scores.
• Saint John's threw for 284 yards and rushed for 214 yards in the game, while the Auggies were held to 32 rushing yards and 105 passing yards by the Johnnie defense. Saint John's also had 30 first downs to Augsburg's seven.
• Linebacker Derek Glynn (JR, Lonsdale, Minn./Faribault HS) had eight tackles (four solo), with a forced fumble and fumble recovery. Collin Feld (JR, Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo HS) also had eight tackles (five solo).
• Clayton Byrd (SR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) had four tackles for-loss, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery for the Auggies. Brandon Sjostrand (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) and Evan Bergemann (FY, Lake Crystal, Minn./Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial HS) also had forced fumbles, and Barclay Bates (SR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) and Tyler Oenes (JR, Henderson, Colo./Prairie View HS) had fumble recoveries.
• Nick Heenie (SR, Victoria, Minn./Waconia HS) caught six passes for 41 yards. Quarterback Quentin Lake (JR, Portland, Ore./Lincoln HS) completed 7-of-20 passing for 58 yards, while rushing nine times for 34 yards.

FOR THE FOES
• Jackson Erdmann completed 22-of-26 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns, with Ben Alvord throwing for 20 yards and a touchdown in relief. Tommy Auger, Jared Streit, Nick Jensen and Kai Barber caught touchdown passes, and Will Gillach caught six passes for 89 yards.
• Barber also rushed for a touchdown, collecting 57 yards on six rushes. Kenneth Udoibok and Sam McNamara also had rushing scores. Zach Barwick kicked a 22-yard field goal just before halftime.
• Nathan Brinker led the Johnnie defense with seven tackles (two solo), including 3.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. Kyle Borgeson had 2.5 sacks among his four tackles (two solo).
