MINNEAPOLIS -- Goals from defenders
Nikki Nightengale (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) and
Valerie Whichello (SR, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) lifted the Augsburg University women's hockey team to a 2-2 overtime tie with Hamline University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After Hamline took the lead with a goal 7:40 into the second period, the Auggies tied the game 1:40 later, as Nightengale scored her team-leading seventh goal, an unassisted, power-play tally. Nightengale's seven goals are most
among all MIAC defenders, with her 10 points third-most. Defenders have accounted for 16 of Augsburg's 36 goals so far this season.
• The Pipers took the lead again 2:53 into the third period, but Whichello tied the game on a blast from the right point, her third goal of the season, at the 10:17 mark, also an unassisted goal.
• Augsburg was outshot by a 30-25 margin, including a 20-8 margin in the third period and overtime.
Bridget Wagner (JR, Niles, Ill./Maine South HS) had four shots on-goal for the Auggies.

Annie Juergens (JR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) had 28 saves in goal for Augsburg.
FOR THE FOES
• Leah Schwartzman scored both goals for the Pipers -- a goal from Dani Perry and Bre Simon in the second period, and an unassisted goal in the third period.
• McKenna Hulslander had 23 saves in goal for Hamline, ranked No. 7 nationally in the D3hockey.com Division III national poll and No. 8 in the USCHO.com poll.
