Augsburg tops Bethel to remain unbeaten in MIAC play

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- The Augsburg University women's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack to post an important 74-67 victory over Bethel University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at the Robertson Center. The win sets up a matchup of unbeaten MIAC teams on Saturday when Augsburg hosts the University of St Thomas.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After a slow start for both teams, the Auggies began to click in the second and really found their stride in the third quarter where they shot 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from the field and 3-of-6 from three point range. Augsburg continued to show why its one of the best three-point shooting teams in the league, as the Auggies connected on 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from beyond the arc for the game, compared to just 15.8 percent (3-of-19) for the Royals. Another key to the game was free throw shooting. Augsburg was able to get to the line 33 times, connecting on 22, while Bethel only took 17 free throw attempts, connecting on just 12.
• Augsburg had six players finish with nine or more points. Leading the way was Arianna Jones (JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS), who scored a season-best 15 points to go along with seven assists, two blocked shots and a pair of steals. 
Tamira McLemore (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) was 4-of-8 from the field, scoring 14 points, while adding a team-best six rebounds and four steals.
• Providing a big spark for Augsburg was Nicole Zielsdorf (SO, Arden Hills, Minn./St. Anthony Village HS), who finished with 11 points, shooting 3-for-4 from three-point range, while adding a steal and a rebound in just six minutes of action.
• MIAC-leading three-point shooter Aiza Wilson (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS), finished the night 3-of-5 from three point range, scoring 10 points, while adding an assist and a steal.
Kaezha Wubben (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS) and Camryn Speese (JR, Bloomington, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) added nine points apiece.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 43.8 percent (21-of-48) from the field, while Bethel connected on 46.4 percent (26-of-56) of its shot attempts.
• The Royals posted a 36-23 advantage on the boards, but the Auggies 10 three-pointers, compared to just three for the Royals was the big difference in the game. This marked the fourth time this season that Augsburg has connected on 10 or more three pointers in a game.

 FOR THE FOES
• Bethel was led off the bench by Elizabeth Schwarz, who finished with a game-high 16 points, while adding six rebounds.
• Hannah Johnson pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds and added seven points for the Royals.

• Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (1/12) at 1 p.m., hosting rival St. Thomas.
• Bethel also returns to action on Saturday traveling to Moorhead, Minn. to take on Concordia College.
