Auggies earn victory over Stevens

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The No. 16-ranked Augsburg University volleyball team earned its third win of the week, a 3-1 nonconference victory over the Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) on Saturday evening at Si Melby Hall. 

THE BASICS 
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg def. Stevens 3-1 (25-16, 25-18, 11-25, 25-16)
LOCATION: Si Melby Hall, Minneapolis, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 16-4 overall, Stevens 9-11 overall 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Augsburg climbed to a two-set lead before struggling in the third set, which it dropped to the Ducks. After regaining their composure, the Auggies won the fourth set -- their strongest set of the match, hitting .298.
• The Auggie offense was led by Kayla Gjerde (SO, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS), who had 16 kills -- tying her career-best kill effort from earlier this season against Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Gjerde also added 14 digs and four block assists.
• Setters Lexie Lang (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) and Izzy Barr (SO, River Falls, Wis./River Falls HS) finished with 18 and 19 assists respectively. Lang added 12 digs for her seventh kill-dig double-double of the year. 
• Megan Quam (SR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had an impressive night with eight kills on 15 attempts, a .533 clip. Corrina Evans (JR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) finished with nine kills and two blocks (one solo). 
• Earning 16 digs each were Jaelin Rios (SR, Champlin, Minn./Totino Grace HS) and Maddie Nierengarten (JR, Foley, Minn./Princeton HS). Rios also had three assists and three service aces, and Nierengarten had five kills, an assist and an ace.
Jade Fullerton (SO, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) led the Auggies with five block assists, while adding eight kills. 

FOR THE FOES
• Casey King led the Ducks with nine kills, while Kathleen Riegner tallied 31 assists. 
• Elizabeth Chu and Corinne Dougherty finished with 20 and 18 digs, respectively. 

UP NEXT
• Augsburg travels to the College of St. Scholastica on Friday (10/18) at 7 p.m. for a nonconference matchup.
