No. 5-ranked Hamline blanks Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS -- Scoring four goals in the second period to break open a close game, the defending NCAA Division III national runner-up Hamline University women's hockey team scored a 6-0 win over host Augsburg University in the teams' Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Hamline outshot Augsburg by a 36-24 margin, and claimed 40 faceoff wins to Augsburg's 19. Leading 1-0 after one period, the Pipers scored four goals in the second period, and added another goal halfway through the third period.
• Mackenzie Molnar (SR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had five shots on-goal for Augsburg, while Katie Flynn (FY, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS), Nikki Nightengale (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) and Hollywood Hermanson (SR, Dover, Minn./Dover-Eyota HS) had three shots each.
• Augsburg goalie Annie Juergens (SR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) had 17 saves in two periods for the Auggies, and made a save on a Hamline penalty-shot attempt 26 seconds into the second period.
• Abby Bollig (SO, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) had 13 saves in goal in relief in the third period.

FOR THE FOES
• Sophie Rausch scored the first two goals of the game for Hamline and added an assist for a three-point night for the Pipers. Taylor Stefan had a goal and two assists, and Madison Kolbow, Katie Carlson and Michaela Arnold also scored goals. Molly Garin and Bre Simon had two assists each.
• Jaela O'Brien had 24 saves in goal for Hamline, ranked No. 5 in the latest USCHO.com Division III national poll.
