Auggie women drop 4-2 decision to No. 6 Gusties

MINNEAPOLIS -- Outshooting the hosts by a 14-2 margin and scoring two key goals in the second period, No. 6-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College held off a late Augsburg University comeback in a 4-2 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey triumph on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Trailing 1-0, McKenna Ellena (JR, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) tied the game with a rising wrist shot from between the faceoff circles, completing a break from Lexie Nelson (SO, Hudson, Wis./Hudson HS) and Lanie Lobdell (JR, Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley HS).
• Augsburg outshot Gustavus by a 13-8 margin in the first period, but Gustavus took control of the game in the second, outshooting Augsburg 14-2 and scoring twice. The Gusties then took a 4-1 lead with a goal at the 13:21 mark of the third period.
• Pulling the goalie with 3:10 left to play, Augsburg gained an extra-attacker goal with 1:03 left, as Emily Ach (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) redirected a Mackenzie Molnar (SR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) shot into the net. Nikki Nightengale (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) fed Molnar's initial shot.
• Augsburg goalie Abby Bollig (SO, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) had 25 saves.

• Kristina Press scored a goal with an assist for Gustavus, ranked No. 6 in the latest USCHO.com Division III national poll. Hailey Holland, Alaina Halverson and Jamie Byrne also scored goals, and Molly McHugh had two assists.
