Augsburg starts MIAC play with 75-55 win over Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Augsburg University men's basketball team began its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season with a 75-55 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Auditorium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After a closely contested first half, where Augsburg led 29-28 at the intermission, the Auggies were able to pull away in the second half by shooting 65.4 percent (17-of-26) from the field and 66.7 percent from three-point range (4-of-6).
• Offensively, Augsburg was led by Matt Carik (JR, Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS), who finished with a season-best 23 points. In a well-rounded effort, Carik also pulled down a season-best nine rebounds, while dishing out a season-best six assists.
Booker Coplin (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) continued his elite play with a 21-point, 12-rebound double-double, his first of the season and 18th of his Auggie career.
• Also finishing in double figures for the Auggies was Henry Mulligan (SR, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS), who finished with 11 points, while adding a pair of rebounds.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 48.3 percent (28-of-58) from the floor, while the Cobbers were held to 38.5 percent (20-of-52) shooting. The Auggies posted a 37-31 advantage on the boards and a 15-6 advantage in points off turnovers.

• The Auggies are currently ranked No. 23 in the latest D3hoops.com national rankings.

FOR THE FOES
• Concordia was led by Tommy Schyma, who finished with 13 points and six rebounds.
• John Reiten added 11 points and three rebounds for the Cobbers.
