Coplin's 38 leads Augsburg past River Falls

MINNEAPOLIS -- Booker Coplin (JR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) posted a season-best 38 points to lead the No. 20-ranked Augsburg University men's basketball team to a 79-76, come-from-behind victory over the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in nonconference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• UW-River Falls led by 11 with 10:17 to play in the game before the Auggies countered with a 7-0 run. Augsburg took a 61-60 lead at the 4:56 mark off a Matt Carik (JR, Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) layup. After extending the Auggie lead to 75-69 with 31 seconds to play, the Falcons pulled within two with just 18 seconds remaining. Augsburg was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line down the stretch to seal the win. 
• Posting his third double-double of the season, and 20th of his Auggie career, Booker Coplin (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) recorded a season-best 38 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Coplin was 11-of-26 from the field and added an assist and a steal. The game marked his 11th 30-plus-point game of his three seasons at Augsburg.
• Carik had an efficient afternoon, shooting 5-of-7 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free-throw line, scoring 18 points, while pulling down eight rebounds and dishing out five assists.
• Transfer James Streeter (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) scored an Auggie career-best 11 points, shooting 5-for-6 from the field, in 15 minutes of action.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 44.8 percent (26-of-58) from the field, while the Falcons connected on 40.6 percent (28-of-69) of their shot attempts. River Falls posted a 39-37 advantage on the boards.
• The Auggies forced 13 Falcon turnovers, while Augsburg committed 14, but the Auggies posted a 23-10 advantage in points off turnovers.

FOR THE FOES
• River Falls had four players finish in double figures, led by a 22-point, 12-rebound effort from Julian Jackson.
• Austin Werdin and Noah Hanson added 17 and 16 points respectively.
