ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Despite putting up a valiant effort against the top-seeded University of St. Thomas, No. 4-seed Augsburg University fell in five sets in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball playoff semifinal match on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg, ranked No. 17 nationally, climbed to an early two-set lead before St. Thomas rallied back claiming the next two sets, going on a 16-5 run in the fourth set. The final set saw fierce back-and-forth action, with nine ties and four lead changes, but the No. 15-ranked Tommies won the deciding set 15-13.

Jaelin Rios (SR, Champlin Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) earned her career-best dig effort with 26 digs in the match.

Lexie Lang (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) earned her ninth assist-dig double-double of the year, with 21 assists and 19 digs. Fellow setter
Izzy Barr (SO, River Falls, Wis./River Falls HS) finished with 24 assists, nine digs and four service aces.

Megan Quam (SR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) and
Corrina Evans (JR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) paced the Augsburg offense, finishing with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Quam added two digs and a block assist, while Evans had five blocks (two solo), four digs and two assists.

Maddie Nierengarten (JR, Foley, Minn./Princeton HS) collected 13 digs, nine kills and two block assists.
Jade Boysen (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) also earned nine kills, to go along with three block assists and a dig.

Jade Fullerton (SO, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) finished with eight kills, hitting .412 on 17 attempts with only one error, while adding four block assists for the Auggies.
FOR THE FOES
• MIAC Defensive Player of the Year Ellie Meyer earned 29 digs for the Tommies.
• Selena Levendoski, MIAC Rookie of the Year, finished with 17 kills.
