Goodmanson scores twice in MIAC-opening Auggie win

MINNEAPOLIS -- Claiming his first collegiate multi-goal game, Gunnar Goodmanson (JR, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) scored twice as the Augsburg University men's hockey team opened Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 5-1 victory over Hamline University on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Goodmanson opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 14:22 mark of the first period, scoring off a centering pass from Austin Martinsen (JR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) on a rush started by Jason Krych (SR, Champlin, Minn./Totino-Grace HS). He also scored the final goal of the game, a shorthanded marker from Charlie Parker (JR, Verona, Wis./Verona HS) on a break at the 11:43 mark of the third period.
• Three Auggie first-year forwards scored their first collegiate goals on Friday. Michael Redmon (FY, West Bloomfield, Mich./Centennial (Tenn.) HS) scored from Matt Nehls (JR, Boulder, Colo./D.C. West HS) at the 16:34 mark of the second period to give Augsburg a 2-0 lead.
• Fritz Belisle (FY, Red Wing, Minn./Roseville Area HS) scored on the power play at the 1:10 mark of the second period, putting home a loose puck on a pass in front from Tommy Carey (JR, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS), following a centering pass by Austin Dollimer (SO, Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS).
• Grant Reichenbacher (FY, Verona, Wis./Madison Edgewood HS) capped the first-year scoring for the Auggies at the 2:48 mark of the third period, backhanding a puck in the air into the net off assists by John O'Connor (SR, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) and Patrick O'Connor (SO, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS).
• Daniil Gerasimov (SR, Moscow, Russia/State School 1944) improved to 2-0-0 on the season for the Auggies, stopping 14 of the 15 shots he faced.
• Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 37-15 margin in the game.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg has now outscored its opponents by a 10-2 margin in its first three games of the season, with seven different Auggies scoring goals.
• Augsburg is ranked No. 7 in the latest USCHO.com Division III national poll.
