Augsburg snaps 26-game losing streak to Tommies

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The No. 21-ranked Augsburg University women's basketball team snapped a 26-game losing streak to the No. 9-ranked University of St. Thomas with a 69-65 overtime win in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Shoenecker Arena. The Auggies last win over the Tommies was 80-74 on Feb. 1, 2006 at Augsburg.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• St. Thomas led 45-35 with 1:16 to play in the third quarter, before Augsburg went on a 14-4 run and tied things up at 49-49 with 5:35 remaining in the action. The Auggies were able to extend their lead to seven with 3:12 left to play but the Tommies scored the final seven points of regulation to force overtime. Augsburg outscored St. Thomas 11-7 in overtime to seal the important MIAC victory.
• Augsburg was led by Jazmyn Solseth (JR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS), who scored 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Solseth was 7-for-13 from the field and added three steals and two assists prior to fouling out.
• Tamira McLemore (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) also scored in double figures for the Auggies, finishing with 12 points, while adding four rebounds and three assists.
• Also battling foul trouble was Camryn Speese (SR, Bloomington, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) who finished with nine points and four rebounds.
• Continuing to lead the MIAC in three-point field goals, Aiza Wilson (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) added two more three-pointers to her season total, finishing with eight points and three steals. Kaezha Wubben (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS) added eight points, shooting 4-for-8 from the field.
• Augsburg shot 39.1 percent (25-of-64) from the field, while the Tommies connected on 41.1 percent (23-of-56) of their shot attempts. St. Thomas posted a 45-35 advantage on the boards, but Augsburg won the turnover battle forcing 23 Tommie miscues, while only committing 12. The Auggies converted that into a 25-9 advantage in points off-turnovers.

FOR THE FOES
• St. Thomas was led by a 19-point, 15-rebound double-double by Brynne Rolland.
• Abby Mackenthun was the only other Tommie in double-figures, finishing with 11 points, while adding five rebounds.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The win is just Augsburg's second-ever at St. Thomas, the last coming on Jan. 23, 1985 (a 62-54 Augsburg win).  The win snaps a 36-game road losing streak to Tommies.
• This is believed to be the highest-ranked opponent beaten in the history of the Auggie women's basketball program.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg is idle until after the holidays, when the Auggies travel to St. Joseph, Minn., to take on the College of St. Benedict on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 3 p.m.
• St. Thomas returns to action on Dec. 28, traveling to Wisconsin Dells, Wis., to take on UW-Stevens Point.
