Coplin leads Augsburg to victory in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Behind a 29-point, 12-rebound double-double from Booker Coplin (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS), the Augsburg University men's basketball team finished its Puerto Rico trip at 2-0 with a 90-73 victory over St. Mary's College (Maryland) on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies were down early 19-9, but rallied and took at 22-21 lead at the 11-minute mark of the first half. The Auggies used an 11-0 run over a three-minute span to take a 45-34 lead into the locker room at the intermission. The Seahawks cut the Augsburg lead to seven on a few occasions, but couldn't get any closer as the Auggies extended their lead to as much as 22 points before cruising on to the victory.
• Coplin's double-double was his fifth of the season and 22nd of his Auggie career. Playing a game-high 38 minutes, he added three assists and a pair of blocked shots.
• Continuing his hot shooting of late, Henry Mulligan (SR, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS), scored 19 points, shooting 6-of-10 from the field and 5-for-9 from three-point range. He leads the team in three-point shooting, connecting on 25 so far this season.
• Also finishing in double figures for the Auggies was Matt Carik (JR, Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS), who finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Carik was 4-for-6 from beyond the arc, adding a team-best four assists.
Martin Mitchell (SR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) added eight points, while Joe Palmer (FY, Faribault, Minn./Faribault HS) added seven points and six rebounds.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 40.8 percent (29-of-71) from the field and 35.3 percent (12-of-34) from three-point range. St. Mary's connected on 42.0 percent of its shot attempts, but was only able to hit 25.0 percent (3-of-12) from beyond the arc. 
• Augsburg posted a 50-45 advantage on the boards and was able to hit 20-of-24 from the free throw line, while the Seahawks were only able to connect on 12-of-29 from the charity stripe.

FOR THE FOES
• St. Mary's was led by a 26-point effort from Gary Grant, who was 10-of-16 from the field.
• Miles Gillette added a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• This is believed to be the first men's basketball meeting between the Auggies and the Seahawks (records dating to the 1960 season).
