McLemore leads Augsburg in loss to No. 3 UST

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg University women's basketball team couldn't quite keep pace with the No. 3-ranked University of St. Thomas, as the Auggies fell 83-68 in a meeting of the top two teams in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Saturday afternoon at Schoenecker Arena.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: St. Thomas 83, Augsburg 68
LOCATION: Schoenecker Arena, St. Paul, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 19-4 overall (14-2 MIAC), St. Thomas 22-1 overall (16-0 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After an 8-8 tie at the 4:20 mark of the first quarter, St. Thomas gradually began to pull away. The hot-shooting Tommies were also strong on the boards and seemed to have an answer for all of Augsburg's comeback attempts. The Auggies cut the Tommie lead to 56-51 at the 8:44 mark of the fourth quarter, but that was as close as Augsburg would get as the Tommies remained unbeaten in league play and clinched at least a share of the league regular-season title.
• Augsburg was led by Tamira McLemore (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS), who had a team-best 21-point, eight-rebound effort. McLemore was 6-for-9 from the field and 4-of-7 from three-point range, while adding a game-high six steals and a pair of assists.
Kaezha Wubben (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS) finished with a season-high 18 points, shooting 5-of-7 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Wubben added four steals and three rebounds on the afternoon.
• Also finishing in double figures for the Auggies was Jazmyn Solseth (SO, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS), who finished with 10 points after shooting 4-of-8 from the floor. Selena Lor (FY, Winona, Minn./Winona HS) added seven points in seven minutes of action.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 44.2 percent (23-of-52) from the field, while the Tommies connected on 56.6 percent (30-of-53) of their shot attempts. St. Thomas posted a 40-21 advantage on the boards, but the Auggies posted a 21-13 advantage in point off turnovers.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• McLemore's 21-point effort marked her 18th game scoring in double figures this season and 56th in her 72-game college career. She has also hit at least one 3-pointer in all but two of her 23 games this season.
• With her one 3-pointer, Aiza Wilson (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) tied the program's career made three-pointer record (149). She has hit at least one 3-pointer in 25 straight games, dating to last season. She stands fourth in the MIAC with 56 three-pointers.

 FOR THE FOES
• St. Thomas, ranked No. 3 in both major Division III national polls (D3hoops.com and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association), was led by a 32-point, 21-rebound effort from Hannah Spaulding.
• Lucia Renikoff added 21 points for the Tommies.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (2/13) at 7 p.m., hosting Macalester College at Si Melby Hall.
