Auggies score 2-0 win over Wildcats

MINNEAPOLIS -- Nikki Nightengale (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) and Megan Johnson (SR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) scored goals, and McKenna Manalli (SR, Byron, Ill./Byron HS) stopped all 14 shots she faced to record her third shutout of the season, as the Augsburg University women's hockey team scored a 2-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over St. Catherine University on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After a scoreless first period in which the teams combined for 14 shots on-goal, Augsburg turned up the offensive intensity in the final two frames, outshooting St. Catherine by a 32-8 margin, for a 40-8 shot advantage in the contest.
• Nightengale gave the Auggies the lead with her team-leading 11th goal of the season, a power-play blast from the point assisted by Ellie Tabaka (JR, Maplewood, Minn./Tartan HS) and Bridget Wagner (JR, Niles, Ill./Maine South HS) at the 17:23 mark of the period. The power-play goal was Nightengale's fifth of the season, tying her for the team's lead in the category.
• Johnson added an insurance goal for the Auggies with 5:09 left in the third period, recording her fourth tally of the season on assists from Jacie Hoehn (SR, Waseca, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville HS) and Mackenzie Molnar (JR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS).
• Starting in goal on the Auggies' Senior Day, Manalli recorded her third shutout of the season and fifth of her career with a 14-save effort, improving her record to 6-2-0 in eight starts.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Nightengale's 11 goals this season are tied for sixth-most among MIAC players in overall statistics, and tops among MIAC defenders. Her 16 points are fourth-most among MIAC defenders, and her five power-play goals are tied for second-most.
• Wagner's team-best 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) are tied for sixth-most among MIAC players, with her 13 assists eighth-most in the MIAC.
• The game was the final home regular-season contest for seven Augsburg seniors -- Johnson, Hoehn, Manalli, Bailey Beane (SR, Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS), Kayla Murray (SR, Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam HS),Bridget Walter (SR, Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) and Valerie Whichello (SR, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS)
