Auggie baseball ends Tucson trip with losses

AUGSBURG STATISTICS - TUCSON INVITATIONAL GAMES

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Augsburg University baseball team closed its week of games at the Tucson Invitational Games with a pair of losses on Friday at the Kino Sports Complex, falling 11-2 to Allegheny College and 14-4 to Arizona Christian University.

ALLEGHENY HIGHLIGHTS
• Allegheny built a 7-0 lead after three innings and never trailed, collecting 14 hits to Augsburg's nine.
• Augsburg scored a run in the sixth inning, as Chris Steinhoff (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Como Park HS) hit a one-out double and scored on a two-out double by Clayton Bodine (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS). In the seventh, Travis Schmidt (JR, Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East HS) doubled home Brayden Gray (FY, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) for the other Auggie run.
• Bodine and Gray had two hits each for the Auggies, with Gray also hitting a triple. 
• Augsburg starter Charles Linder (SR, Harris, Minn./North Branch HS) struck out one while walking one in two innings of work. Quentin Lake (SR, Portland, Ore./Lincoln HS) had five strikeouts against a walk in 3.2 innings of relief, with Matthew Moe (FY, St. Cloud, Minn./Becker HS) striking out one against a walk in the final 2.1 innings.
• Vincent Carone went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored to pace Allegheny, while Tommy Cannon went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
• Sean Kealey struck out nine while walking one in seven innings to score the pitching win for the Gators.

ARIZONA CHRISTIAN HIGHLIGHTS
• Arizona Christian, an NAIA program already playing its 30th game of the season (16-14), scored the first 10 runs of the game in the opening three innings, pounding out 15 hits. The Firestorm also took advantage of seven Augsburg errors, as only four of the 14 runs charged to five Augsburg pitchers were earned.
• Ryan Masui (SR, Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka HS) drove in Bodine on a single for the Auggies in the fourth inning, and RBI singles by Mike Brookshaw (SR, Prescott, Wis./Prescott HS) and Walker Rogers (JR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) plated runs in the fifth. 
• In the sixth, Dylan Foote (JR, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a single by Paulson, and scored on a single by Kyle Hoppe (SO, Andover, Minn./Andover HS). Troy Ouellette (JR, Robbinsdale, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bodine in the seventh.
• Rogers went 3-for-4 for the Auggies against Arizona Christian, while Ouellette and Dan Phyle (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Rosemount HS) had two hits each.
• Brent Smith had three hits, scored three runs and had three RBI for Arizona Christian, while Michael Diffley had two hits with three RBI, scoring two runs.
