ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg University baseball team claimed a doubleheader split with the University of Northwestern-St. Paul on Tuesday, dropping the opener 7-3 and winning the nightcap 6-3.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg fell behind the Eagles by three runs in the first inning and weren't able to string together enough runs to make the comeback. The Auggies were able to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth, but the Eagles responded scoring a single run in the bottom of the fifth and three runs in the sixth inning to secure the win.Â

Mike Brookshaw (SR, Prescott, Wis./Prescott HS) had a solo home run to right field in the third inning.Â

Walker Rogers (JR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) who doubled to left center. Rogers scored on a Dan Phyle (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Rosemount HS) single to right field.Â
• Rogers had two hits in the game, while
Travis Schmidt (JR, Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East HS) and
Donovan Tomony (JR, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS) also added hits for the Auggies.Â

Mathew Nicklay (SO, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) got the start for Augsburg, striking out four while allowing one walk and eight hits in his five innings pitched.
Paul Girard (FY, Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata HS) pitched in relief. Â
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Just as in the first game, Augsburg fell behind the Eagles by three runs in the first inning. The Auggies responded with five runs in the third inning.
Joe Rydel (SR, Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) started the inning off with a single to right field and then advanced to second when
Troy Ouellette (JR, Robbinsdale, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) singled through the right side. Brookshaw then doubled, scoring both Rydel and Ouellette. After
Clayton Bodine (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) walked, Augsburg scored its final three runs of the inning off a homer to left field by Rogers.Â
• The Auggies scored once more in the fourth inning on a Phyle home run to left field.Â
• Phyle and Ouellette had two hits each for the Auggies, who had eight hits in the game.Â
• Augsburg received a strong pitching effort from starter
Jamie Kaye (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS), who struck out a career-high 11 while walking one in his second complete-game victory of the season.
FOR THE FOESÂ
• Carlton Lindow scored three runs, had five hits and four RBI in both games for Northwestern, while Aaron Krahn had three hits and three runs.
• Sam Ludzack got the win in game one, allowing two earned runs and claiming five strikeouts in seven innings pitched.Â
