Auggies improve to 4-0 in MWLC with win at Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa -- With four goals from Allie Tuccitto (SO, Rosemount, Minn./Eastview HS) and three from Megan Furlong (SO, Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS), the Augsburg University women's lacrosse team improved to 4-0 in Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference play with a 12-8 victory at Wartburg College on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Tuccitto scored four goals in a game for the second time this season and third time in her career, scoring on all four of her shots in the game. Furlong also scored on all three of her shots, including a free-position goal, matching her career-high scoring output for the third time this season.
• The game was a close one in the first half, with Augsburg leading 7-6 at the break. But a four-goal run by the Auggies, with Tuccitto scoring two goals, and Furlong and Annika Hegrenes (JR, Maplewood, Minn./Concordia Academy HS) adding a marker, gave the Auggies an 11-6 cushion midway through the second half. Tuccitto added a final goal with 1:02 left to play.
• Hegrenes scored two free-position goals with an assist, also claiming three ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control.
Christina Nelson (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) scored a goal for the Auggies, adding four caused turnovers, three ground balls and a team-best six draw controls.
Mikayla Knudson (JR, Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River HS) scored a goal with four caused turnovers and three ground balls, Hannah Mincy (FY, Des Moines, Iowa/Urbandale HS) also scored a goal, and Teyha Reinbold (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) contributed an assist.
• Goalie Maddie Seykora (SO, Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) had six saves and four draw controls.
• Augsburg had a 29-19 advantage in shots in the game and held a 20-10 advantage in ground balls. Wartburg had 14 draw controls to Augsburg's eight. Wartburg had seven clearances in nine attempts, while Augsburg was 6-for-7 on its clearing attempts.

FOR THE FOES
• Ashlyn Jelinek scored three goals with two ground balls, two caused turnovers and four draw controls to lead Wartburg. Bri Greiskains scored two goals with eight draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover.
• Laura Sinkovitz had 12 saves, two ground balls and a caused turnover in goal for the Knights.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg hosts Hamline in a battle of MWLC rivals on Thursday (3/28) at 7 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field. The teams met in last year's MWLC playoff title game, with Hamline winning 8-7.
