Jones sets points record in Augsburg victory

BELOIT, Wis. -- Mikayla Jones (JR, Oak Park Heights, Minn./B.E. Emerson Prep HS) set a single-game school record for points, scoring six goals with three assists for nine points, leading Augsburg University in a 15-5 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference win at Beloit College on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• With her nine-point effort, Jones broke the old single-game Augsburg record of eight points, set by Helena Nguyen '18 in a 2018 game against Cornell (Iowa). Nguyen tied a school record with seven goals, adding an assist, in the 2018 game. Jones scored four goals in the second half, scored three free-position goals, and added a caused turnover and a draw control in the win.
• Augsburg led just 4-3 at halftime, and after Beloit tied the game 2:26 into the second half, the Auggies went on a major scoring run, outscoring Beloit 11-1 the rest of the game. Augsburg outshot Beloit by a 27-2 margin in the second half, part of a 43-17 shots advantage in the game. The Auggies controlled the flow of play in the second half, claiming 10 draw controls to Beloit's three for an 18-10 advantage in the game; converting 6-of-8 clears for a 15-of-19 clearance total in the game; and collecting 11 ground balls to Beloit's five, for an 18-10 advantage in the game.
Allie Tuccitto (SO, Rosemount, Minn./Eastview HS) matched her career high with a four-goal effort, adding two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Mikayla Knudson (JR, Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River HS) scored two goals with three caused turnovers, two draw controls and three ground balls.
Christina Nelson (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) collected 10 draw controls, with two caused turnovers, while also scoring a goal.
Demey Everett (JR, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) scored a goal with a caused turnover ad two ground balls, and Megan Furlong (SO, Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) scored a goal with a caused turnover and ground ball. Annika Hegrenes (JR, Maplewood, Minn./Concordia Academy HS) had four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Kassie Diaz (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) saw her first collegiate career action in goal, playing the final 35 minutes of the game after starter Maddie Seykora (SO, Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) had to leave the game due to injury. Seykora had seven saves in goal with a caused turnover and ground ball in 25 minutes of play, with Diaz recording one save in relief to pick up the win.

FOR THE FOES
• Kieran Rodning scored two goals with two draw controls to lead Beloit. 
• Alexa Arakelian had 14 saves for the Buccaneers.
