Knudson ties goals, points record in lacrosse win

MINNEAPOLIS -- For the second straight day, an Augsburg University women's lacrosse player achieved a new single-game scoring record, as Mikayla Knudson (JR, Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River HS) tied the school marks for goals and points with a seven-goal, nine-point effort in Augsburg's 17-12 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference win over Monmouth College (Ill.) on Sunday morning at Edor Nelson Field.

THE BASICS

FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 17, Monmouth (Ill.) 12
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 6-3 overall (6-1 MWLC), Monmouth 4-6 overall (2-5 MWLC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• A day after Mikayla Jones (JR, Oak Park Heights, Minn./B.E. Emerson Prep HS) set a new single-game school record for points with nine (six goals, three assists) in the Auggies' 15-5 win at Beloit (Wis.), Knudson tied Jones' point mark, and also tied the single-game goal record with seven tallies. The record was previously set by Delaney Everett '18 in a 2016 game against the University of Dallas (Texas) and by Helena Nguyen '18 in a 2018 game against Cornell (Iowa).
• Augsburg scored the first four goals of the game in the opening 6:50 of play, but Monmouth cut into the lead and trailed just 8-5 at halftime. The Auggie lead never expanded beyond four goals until the final two minutes of play.
• Knudson scored three goals in the first half and four in the second half, also contributing two assists, scoring her seven goals on 10 shots on-target. She added three ground balls, five draw controls and a caused turnover.
Allie Tuccitto (SO, Rosemount, Minn./Eastview HS) also set new personal career-bests for goals and points, scoring five goals with two assists for a seven-point day. She added three ground balls and a caused turnover.
Christina Nelson (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) scored a goal with an assist, adding 10 draw controls -- her fourth double-digit draw-control effort of the season and eighth of her career -- while adding three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
• Making just her second collegiate appearance in goal, Kassie Diaz (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) had an impressive performance, collecting 12 saves for her second straight victory. She came into Saturday's game in an emergency basis after starter Maddie Seykora (SO, Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) had to leave the game due to injury.
• Jones scored a goal with an assist, adding three ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover. Megan Furlong (SO, Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) scored a goal with three caused turnovers and three ground balls, and Hannah Mincy (FY, Des Moines, Iowa/Urbandale HS) and McKenna Ellena (SO, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) also scored goals.
• Teyha Reinbold (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) had four ground balls and three caused turnovers, and Demey Everett (JR, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Champlin Park HS) had two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
• Augsburg outshot Monmouth by a 42-32 margin in the game, while also claiming 19 draw controls to Monmouth's 12, and 26 ground balls to Monmouth's 19. Augsburg converted 18-of-28 clearing attempts, compared to 14-of-26 for Monmouth.

FOR THE FOES
• Monmouth was paced by Kara-Jade Gordon, who scored five goals with an assist, adding eight draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover. Kaelin Somner scored two goals with an assist, two ground balls and three draw controls.
• Kaitlin Korf had 15 saves in goal for the Scots, while Lexi Tibbs had six ground balls and three caused turnovers.
