Auggies drop close decisions on Senior Day

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.  -- The Augsburg University baseball team was edged by one run in both games in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader matchup against Saint Mary's University on Tuesday, as the Auggies celebrated their nine seniors on Senior Day at Parade Stadium.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Pitcher Charles Linder (SR, Harris, Minn./North Branch HS) threw a solid 7.0 innings in his outing for the Auggies, allowing four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts against one walk. Joey Tschida (JR, Lakeville, Minn./St. Thomas Academy HS) pitched an inning of relief.
Mike Brookshaw (SR, Prescott, Wis./Prescott HS) was 2-for-4, hitting a single in the second inning, then scoring the first Auggie run on a Travis Schmidt (JR, Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East HS) single to left field.
• Augsburg added two more runs in the third inning, as Josh Tyler (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) drove in Donovan Tomony (JR, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS) on a RBI double to right field. Tyler also crossed the plate as Daniel Phyle (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Rosemount HS) singled.
• Saint Mary's had a one-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Auggies tied the game when Joe Rydel (SR, Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) started the inning with a single and then scored on a Cardinal error.
