Auggie volleyball falls at Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The No. 17-ranked Augsburg University volleyball team fell to Loras College in a 3-1 nonconference decision on Friday night. 

THE BASICS 
FINAL SCORE: Loras def. Augsburg 3-1 (17-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-22)
LOCATION: Dubuque, Iowa
RECORDS: Augsburg 8-2 overall, Loras 9-2 overall

HOW IT HAPPENED 
• After winning the first set of the match, Augsburg dropped the next three sets to Loras, suffering only its second loss of the season and snapping an eight-match winning streak. The Auggies were held to a hitting-percentage under .200; the only other match Augsburg was held to under .200 was its season-opening loss to California Lutheran University.
Lexie Lang (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had her first career double-double kill-assist match with 17 assists and 10 kills, hitting .412. Lang also had seven digs.
• Earning her sixth double-double kill-dig effort of the season, Kayla Gjerde (SO, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) had 12 kills and 13 digs. 
• Maddie Nierengarten (JR, Foley, Minn./Princeton HS) and Jade Boysen (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) added eight kills each for the Auggies. Nierengarten also had eight digs, two service aces and a block assist. 
Jade Fullerton (SO, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) had a match-best four block assists, to go along with four kills and an ace. 
• Izzy Barr (SO, River Falls, Wis./River Falls HS) earned 14 assists, nine digs and a service ace. While Jaelin Rios (SR, Champlin Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) had 14 digs, four assists, a kill and an ace.

FOR THE FOES
• Three Loras players had double-digit kill efforts, Jackie Alberto with 14, Kendra Cave and Kayla Kinney with 11 each.  
• Jessalyn earned an impressive 44 assists. 

UP NEXT
• Augsburg will stay in Dubuque, Iowa for two nonconference matches on Saturday (9/14) against UW-La Crosse at 12 p.m. and Edgewood (Wis.) at 4 p.m.
