ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg University volleyball team capped its Homecoming week with an impressive 3-0 victory over Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Leonard Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies came out firing on all cylinders, hitting an impressive .357 in the first set, while holding Macalester to just a -.061 hitting percentage. Augsburg kept Macalester out of its offensive rhythm for the entire match, holding the Scots to their second-lowest hitting percentage of the season (.009). The Auggie block continued to shine, posting 11 team blocks in just three sets.

Jade Boysen (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) recorded a season-best six blocks to lead Augsburg at the net and added three kills.
• Continuing to show why she is one of the best six-rotation players in the league,
Kayla Gjerde (SO, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) led the Auggie offense with 13 kills, while adding 12 digs and three blocks. This marked her eighth kill-dig double-double of the season and 13th of her Auggie career.

Jaelin Rios (SR, Champlin, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) had a match-best 17 digs as she anchored the Auggie defense.
• Outside hitter
Maddie Nierengarten (JR, Foley, Minn./Princeton HS) recorded seven kills on 16 attempts, while picking up nine digs.

Corrina Evans (JR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) added six kills and five blocks (one solo), while
Megan Quam (SR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) chipped in five kills and three blocks.
• Setters
Izzy Barr (SO, River Falls, Wis./River Falls HS) and
Lexie Lang (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) dished out 15 and 14 kills respectively. Serving expert Ciashia "Cooki" Shiongyaj recorded a match-best three service aces.
FOR THE FOES
• Eliza King led the Macalester offense with nine kills, while adding five digs.
• Katrina Schoen picked up a team-best 15 digs.

• Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (Oct. 2) when the Auggies travel to Northfield, Minn. to take on St. Olaf College in MIAC action at 7 p.m.
