Augsburg tops Macalester 90-76

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University men's basketball team picked up the program's 10th win of the season, and third consecutive, topping Macalester College 90-76 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After leading by 11 at the intermission, Augsburg was able to extend its lead to 16 early in the second half. Macalester whittled the Auggie lead down to 64-61 with 9:13 to play, but Augsburg answered with a 16-4 run and maintained a double-digit lead down the stretch. 
• For the third consecutive game, Matt Carik (JR, Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) played all 40 minutes of action. Carik finished with 20 points and tied a season-best with nine rebounds, while shooting 4-of-8 from three point range and dishing out six assists. Over his past three games, Carik is averaging 20.0 points per-game and 6.7 rebounds per-game.
• Henry Mulligan (SR, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS) had an outstanding shooting afternoon for the Auggies, scoring 20 points, shooting 7-for-10 from the field and 6-of-9 from three point range.
• Leading Augsburg on the boards was Booker Coplin (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) who pulled down a game-high 12 boards, to go along with 17 points and five assists. The double-double was his eighth of the season and 25th of his Auggie career.
• Also scoring in double figures for the Auggies was James Streeter (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn./Totino Grace HS), who was also efficient, shooting 5-for-6 from the field and 2-of-3 from three point range.
• Martin Mitchell (SR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) and Joe Palmer (FY, Faribault, Minn./Faribault HS) added eight points apiece for the Auggies.
• For the sixth time this season, Augsburg shot 50 percent or better from the field. The Auggies were 31-of-62 from the field for the game and connected on a season-high 18 three-pointers (18-of-36). Macalester shot 50.8 percent (30-of-59) from the field, but was only able to connect on 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from three point range.
• The Auggies posted a 35-29 advantage on the boards and outscored the Scots 14-3 in second chance points.

FOR THE FOES
• The Macalester offense was led by 20 point efforts from Eric Sathy and Shane Anderson.
• Jackson Henningfield pulled down a team-best eight rebounds and added 12 points.

• Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (1/18) at 1 p.m., traveling to St. Peter, Minn. to take on Gustavus Adolphus College.
• Macalester returns to action on Wednesday (1/15) hosting Hamline University at 7 p.m.
