HOW IT HAPPENED
• Playing with just 17 skaters due to injuries, the Auggies built a 2-0 lead after two periods, then scored three goals in the third period to score the convincing MIAC win. Augsburg entered the weekend ranked No. 8 in the latest USCHO.com Division III national poll.
• The Auggies struck first at the 16:25 mark of the first period, as
Austin Martinsen (JR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) intercepted a Johnnie pass and found
Gavin Holland (SO, Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) streaking up the center of the ice, and he scored on the breakaway.
•
Jarod Blackowiak (FY, Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) gave the Auggies a 2-0 lead at the 13:18 mark of the second period, batting down a rebound in the air off a shot by
Austin Koss (FY, Huntington Beach, Minn./Huntington Beach HS), and firing the puck from the slot for his third goal of the season.
Ben Henderson (SO, North Branch, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) received the second assist on the goal.
•
Fritz Belisle (FY, Red Wing, Minn./Roseville Area HS) scored his second career goal on a sharp-angle shot from the left goal line, scoring on a rebound off a
Patrick O'Connor (SO, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) shot.
Charlie Parker (JR, Verona, Wis./Verona HS) also assisted.
• Augsburg scored twice in a 59-second span late in the game. Holland notched his second goal of the game and ninth of the season at the 14:51 mark.
Michael Redmon (FY, West Bloomfield, Mich./Centennial (Tenn.) HS) slid a pass across the crease off a rebound of a Martinsen shot, and Holland slammed it home. The win was capped with a shorthanded, empty-net goal by
John O'Connor (SR, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS), who fired a shot nearly the full length of the ice into the net following a faceoff win by
Grant Reichenbacher (FY, Verona, Wis./Madison Edgewood HS).
•
Daniil Gerasimov (JR, Moscow, Russia/State School 1944) earned his fourth shutout of the season in goal, stopping all 28 shots he faced. Augsburg outshot Saint John's by a 32-28 margin.
