Augsburg comes up just short in 74-70 loss to Bethel

BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 11-ranked Augsburg University women's basketball team suffered its first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss of the season, dropping a hard fought contest to No. 23-ranked Bethel University 74-70 on Wednesday evening at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies outscored the Royals 20-12 in the final quarter, but just couldn't complete the fourth quarter rally as the Auggies dropped their first conference game of the season.
• Augsburg was led offensively by Kaezha Wubben (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS), who scored a season-high 18 points, shooting 7-for-13 from the field.  
• Tamira McLemore (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) dished out a season-best seven assists to go along with 16 points and five rebounds.
• On the boards, Camryn Speese (SR, Bloomington, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) tied a career-best with 13 rebounds to go along with 15 points for her first double-double of the season and sixth of her Auggie career.
• Aiza Wilson (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) chipped in eight points and Jazmyn Solseth (JR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) added eight rebounds for the Auggies.
• Augsburg shot 39.7 percent (23-of-58) from the field, while the Royals connected on 44.2 percent (23-of-52) of their shot attempts. Augsburg claimed a 42-34 advantage on the boards, but struggled at the free throw line, only connecting on 16-of-30.

FOR THE FOES
• Bethel was led by Taite Anderson, who scored 18 points, shooting 7-for-9 from the field. 
• Elizabeth Schwarz added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Royals.

• Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (1/11) hosting Macalester College in a men's and women's doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m.
• Bethel also returns to action on Saturday (1/11), hosting Gustavus Adolphus College at 3 p.m.
