LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Augsburg University wrestling team finished in seventh place at the inaugural NCAA women's bracket at the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals, scoring a 27-19 victory over Tiffin University (Ohio) on Saturday afternoon at Freedom Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg is ranked No. 9 in the latest NWCA/NCAA national rankings and No. 6 in the Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association national rankings. The Auggies entered the meet as the No. 8 seed in the 15-team field, and topped No. 7/14-ranked Tiffin in the seventh-place match.
• The Auggies had one of their most complete team performances of the season, as they won six of the seven bouts wrestled against Tiffin. Fifteen of the 19 team points scored by the Dragons came from three forfeits.
• Top-ranked 109-pounder
Emily Shilson (FY, Maple Grove, Minn./Mounds View HS) claimed her second pin of the weekend, improving to 5-0 with a 1:34 match-ender.

Vayle-Rae Baker (FY, Benton, Pa./Wyoming Seminary), ranked No. 3 in the NWCA/NCAA and No. 2 in the WCWA at 123 pounds, had an impressive weekend, winning all four of her bouts by bonus-point margins, including a 10-0, 71-second technical fall win on Saturday. Baker is now 12-2 on the season with four pins and five technical falls.

Bel Snyder (SO, Deer Creek, Minn./Wadena-Deer Creek HS) claimed a 2:45 pin at 116 pounds to improve to 6-8 on the season. The pin was her third of the season.

Melissa Jacobs (FY, Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine HS (Scott West)) claimed her first pin as an Auggie, with a 2:17 win at 170 pounds.

Savannah Vold (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) gained her second win of the season with a solid 8-1 win at 130 pounds.

Marlynne Deede (FY, Springville, Utah/Springville HS) scored a 40-second technical fall win at 155 pounds, claiming a takedown and four back exposure rolls in succession to score a 10-0 win, improving to 6-6-on the season.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Augsburg University wrestling team will compete for seventh place at the inaugural NCAA women's bracket at the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals, after going 1-2 in its matches on Friday at Freedom Hall. Augsburg opened with a 28-16 loss to Presbyterian (S.C.), then edged Adrian (Mich.) 25-24 before falling to Gannon (Pa.) 35-11.

Emily Shilson (FY, Maple Grove, Minn./Mounds View HS) scored the quickest pin of the day for the Auggies, as the top-ranked 109-pounder scored a 25-second pin of Presbyterian's Cassy Lopez.

Marlynne Deede (FY, Springville, Utah/Springville HS) went 1-2 on the day, but claimed a 4:16 pin of Adrian's Mara Eason at 155 pounds. Deede is now 5-6 on the season with two pins.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Augsburg University's women's wrestling team will compete at the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals championships this weekend, as the tournament for NCAA women's wrestling teams will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Kentucky Expo Center (Freedom Hall/Exhibition Hall) in Louisville, Ky.
Competing in its inaugural season in 2019-20, Augsburg is the No. 8 seed at the 15-team NWCA National Duals NCAA women's bracket, and will open with a match against Presbyterian (S.C.) on Friday at 8 a.m. (Central time) The winner of that match will face top-seed McKendree (Ill.) at 11 a.m. Matches will continue on Friday and Saturday, with placing matches set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
In the latest Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association (WCWA) national rankings, released on Sunday, Augsburg is ranked No. 6. Four Auggies are ranked in the national poll in their weight classes, led by
Emily Shilson (FY, Maple Grove, Minn./Mounds View HS), who is ranked No. 1 at 109 pounds.
Vayle-Rae Baker (Benton, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) is ranked No. 2 at 123,
Gabby Skidmore (FY, Spooner, Wis./Cumberland HS) is ranked No. 5 at 123, and
Faith Tuttle (FY, North St. Paul, Minn./North St. Paul HS) is ranked No. 5 at 170.
In the latest NWCA/NCAA national rankings, released on Dec. 16, Augsburg is ranked sixth in the tournament ranking and ninth in the dual-meet rankings. In the individual polls, Shilson is ranked No. 1 at 109 pounds, Baker is ranked No. 3 at 123, Skidmore is ranked No. 8 at 130 and Tuttle is ranked No. 6 at 170.
