Power play lifts Augsburg to sweep of Saint Mary's

WINONA, Minn. -- Scoring a pair of power-play goals, the Augsburg University women's hockey team completed its fourth straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series sweep with a 2-1 win at Saint Mary's University on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 2, Saint Mary's 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Tied 1-1 halfway through the third period and on the power play, Hollywood Hermanson (SR, Dover, Minn./Dover-Eyota HS) slid a pass from left to right to Nikki Nightengale (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS), who quickly passed the puck back across to the left circle to Bridget Wagner (SR, Niles, Ill./Maine South HS), who hit a slap shot that deflected off a Saint Mary's defender and over the goalie's shoulder for her ninth goal of the season.
• The Auggies opened the scoring 5:58 into the game, as Nightengale scored her third goal of the season, blasting a one-timer off a feed from Katie Flynn (FY, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS). Wagner received the second assist on the power-play goal.
• Augsburg again dominated play throughout the game, outshooting Saint Mary's by a 38-15 margin, part of a weekend where the Auggies claimed a 82-32 shots-on-goal advantage.
• Goalie Annie Juergens (SR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) stopped 14 of the 15 shots she faced to score the win.
