Augsburg posts 95-80 win over SMU

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University men's basketball team had six players finish in double figures in a 95-80 victory over Saint Mary's University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg was able to take a 46-36 advantage into the locker room at intermission. Saint Mary's cut the Auggie lead to seven on two occasions in the second half, but couldn't get any closer as Augsburg extended its lead to as many as 17 points before cruising on to the team's 15th victory of the season.
• Matt Carik (JR, Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) led the Auggie offense with a 22-point effort. He finished 7-for-10 from the field and added nine rebounds and four assists.
• Nearly posting a rare triple-double, Booker Coplin (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) scored 21 points, dished out a career-high 10 assists and pulled down eight rebounds.
• Tying a career-high scoring effort, James Streeter (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) scored 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
• Joe Palmer (FY, Faribault, Minn./Fairbault HS) and Carter Duncan (SR, Chisago, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) added 11 and 10 points respectively.
• For the ninth time this season, Augsburg shot 50.0 percent or better from the field. The Auggies finished connecting on 50.8 percent (32-of-63) of their shot attempts, while Saint Mary's hit 50.0 percent (27-of-54) from the floor.
• The Auggies claimed a 34-29 advantage on the boards, tied a season-low with five turnovers and posted a 28-10 advantage on bench scoring.

FOR THE FOES
• Saint Mary's was led by Raheem Anthony, who finished with 29 points and seven rebounds.
• Eli Cave added 25 points on an 11-of-17 shooting night.
