Augsburg tops Saint Benedict 62-54

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University women's basketball team extended its winning streak to six straight games with a 62-54 victory over the College of Saint Benedict in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

RECORDS: Augsburg 18-3 overall (14-2 MIAC), Saint Benedict 10-11 overall (6-10 MIAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED
•  Augsburg trailed 22-21 at the intermission, but came out with a 10-0 run to start the second half. The Bennies tied things up with under a minute to play in the third quarter, and the teams were dead-locked at 37-37 at the end of the third. Augsburg extended its lead to 10 on two separate occasions in the fourth quarter, but the Bennies kept its close until the final buzzer. With the win, Augsburg claims another important MIAC victory and remains in second-place in the MIAC standings with four regular season games to go.
• Camryn Speese (SR, Bloomington, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) posted her third double-double of the season, and eighth of her Auggie career, finishing with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds -- eight offensive.
• Offensively, Tamira McLemore (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) led all players with a game-high 23 points, which included a 9-for-9 effort from the free-throw line. McLemore added six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
• Jazmyn Solseth (JR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Criox Lutheran HS) added eight points for the Auggies and dished out a team-best four assists.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 31.6 percent (18-of-57) from the field, while the Bennies connected on 36.4 percent (16-of-44) of their shot attempts.
• Augsburg posted a 45-29 advantage on the boards, including a season-best 21 offensive boards..
• The Auggies held a 26-14 advantage in points in the paint and a 12-4 advantage in second chance points.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

• At the 3:20 mark of the fourth quarter, Aiza Wilson (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) connected on her 211th career three-pointer, and in the process tied Missy Pederson of St. Thomas for the MIAC record for made three-point field goals in a career.

FOR THE FOES
• Saint Benedict was led by a 16-point effort form Sidney Schiffler.
• Megan Thompson added 14 points and six assists for the Bennies.
