Six Auggies earn MIAC women's basketball honors

2019-20 MIAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL AWARDS

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg University guard Tamira McLemore (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) joined an elite group of 18 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball players to earn All-MIAC honors all four years of their careers, leading a group of six Auggies who earned postseason honors from the MIAC on Wednesday.

McLemore and post player Camryn Speese (SR, Bloomington, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) were named to the 18-member All-MIAC team, with McLemore also being named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team. Guard Kaezha Wubben (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS) was named to the five-player MIAC All-Defensive Team and was one of 10 players named All-MIAC Honorable Mention. Auggies Arianna Jones (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS), Jazmyn Solseth (JR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) and Aiza Wilson (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) were also named All-MIAC Honorable Mention. It's the second conference honors for Speese (All-MIAC in 2018), Jones (All-MIAC in 2019) and Wilson (Sixth Player of the Year in 2019), while the MIAC honors are the first for Wubben and Solseth in their careers.

The five seniors who earned MIAC honors were part of a group that had the best four-season run in the varsity history (since 1972-73) of Augsburg's women's basketball program. Under fifth-season head coach Ted Riverso, the Auggies finished 22-5 overall in 2019-20, matching last season's school-record total of wins. Augsburg went 17-3 in MIAC play, the most conference wins in a season in school history, reaching the MIAC postseason playoffs for the third time in four years and the MIAC playoff title game for the second year in a row. The Augsburg seniors compiled a 71-33 (.683) overall record and 49-25 (.662) MIAC record in their careers.

Tamira McLemoreThis season, McLemore and Bethel forward Taite Anderson became the 17th and 18th players in MIAC women's basketball history to earn All-MIAC honors all four years of their careers. McLemore led the Auggies in scoring, averaging 16.4 points per-game, the fifth-best scoring average among MIAC players in overall statistics. Her 427 points were fourth-most among league players. Her 142 field goals were fourth-best among league players, as was her 62 three-pointers. She also contributed 79 steals, good for third-most among MIAC players, along with 67 assists (11th).

McLemore finished her career as one of the best players in Augsburg women's basketball history. She competed in 102 games (101 starts), finishing second in school history in scoring with 1,556 points. Her 15.3 career points per-game average is also second-best in program history, and she holds Augsburg's school record with 271 steals. She ranks among the top 10 in program history in three other categories: 511 field goals (second), 201 three-pointers (second), 333 free throws (second) and 278 assists (fifth). McLemore pulled down 469 rebounds in her career, a 4.6 per-game average.

A two-time D3hoops.com All-West Region selection (second team in 2019, third team in 2017) and 2017 D3hoops.com West Region Rookie of the Year, McLemore was named as a D3hoops.com Preseason All-America fourth-team selection this season.

Camryn SpeeseSpeese had the best year of her career this season, averaging 13.1 points and a team-best 6.1 rebounds per-game. She was 12th among MIAC players in scoring average and scored the eighth-most points (354) in the MIAC. Her 166 rebounds were seventh-most in the MIAC, with her 6.1 average 11th-best. She finished fifth in the conference with 94 free throws, eighth with 130 field goals, and her 60.2 field-goal percentage was third-best among MIAC players and the second-best field-goal percentage in a single season in school history.

Playing in 102 games (97 starts) in her career, Speese finished with 1,061 career points (10.4 per-game), good for eighth-most in school history. Her 555 career rebounds rank ninth and her 299 free throws rank third in school history.

Kaezha WubbenA guard, Wubben battled injuries that sidelined her for three games early in the season and became one of the best sixth players in the conference this year, averaging 9.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 18.0 minutes played per-game. Her 46 steals were 12th-most among MIAC players, as was her 46.2 field-goal percentage.

Playing in 101 career games (79 starts), Wubben finished her career ninth in school history in scoring, with 1,022 points (10.1 per-game). Her 243 free throws are eighth-most in school history and her 177 steals are ninth-most. Wubben also contributed 276 rebounds (2.7 per-game) and 169 assists.

Arianna JonesJones cemented her reputation as one of the best point guards in the conference, finishing second among league players with 96 assists and sixth with 56 steals. Her 3.43 assist-to-turnover ratio, with just 28 turnovers in 27 games, is tops among all NCAA Division III players nationally (as of March 4 games). Jones averaged 4.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per-game this season.

Playing in 103 career games (92 starts), Jones finished her career with 713 points (6.9 per-game) and 327 rebounds (3.2 per-game), to go along with 139 three-pointers, 195 steals (tied for sixth in school history) and 342 assists (fourth in school history).

Aiza WilsonWilson became the top outside scorer in MIAC history, setting a conference record with 277 career three-pointers and tying a single-season school record with 73 made three-pointers this season. Her 73 three-pointers are most among MIAC players and 25th among NCAA Division III players nationally. Wilson averaged 8.8 points and 1.9 rebounds per-game, to go along with 64 assists and 19 steals.

In her 104-game career (40 starts), Jones finished with 912 points (8.8 per-game), 15th in school history in career scoring. She added 196 rebounds (1.9 per-game), 198 assists and 61 steals.

Jazmyn SolsethSolseth had a career season in her third year as an Auggie and first as a starting post player. She finished fifth on the team in scoring, averaging 9.1 points per-game, while finishing second on the team with a 5.6 rebounds per-game average. She added 17 blocked shots, 41 assists and 44 steals on the year.

In 76 career games (26 starts), Solseth has scored 479 points (6.3 per-game) with 327 rebounds (4.3 per-game), along with 73 assists, 118 steals and 40 blocked shots.

McLemore was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team, as part of the conference's sportsmanship initiative. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
