Homers pace Auggies in split with Storm

MINNEAPOLIS -- Kayla Hanson (SO, Trimont, Minn./St. James HS) and Shannon Dale (SR, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) hit home runs in the second game to lead the Augsburg University softball team in a nonconference doubleheader split with Crown College on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg was limited to just three hits in the first game -- a single by Dale in the second inning, a single by Anesia King (SR, Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) in the third inning, and a single by Mackenzie Evenson (SR, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS). Augsburg also had two walks in the game.
• Crown jumped out to a 5-0 lead, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring five runs on five hits. The Storm scored a run in the third, and ended the game via the NCAA eight-run rule with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
• Sabriya Passmore (FY, Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS) struck out two in 4.2 innings of work. Just four of the eight runs charged to her were earned, as the Auggies committed two errors in the game.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Hanson hit her first collegiate home run, a three-run blast to right field, in the second inning, and Dale hit her third collegiate homer, a solo shot to right in the third inning.
• The Auggies' first run came just before Hanson's homer in the second inning, as Cassie Lehman (SR, Blaine, Minn./Centennial HS) hit a run-scoring double, her first collegiate extra-base hit.
• Bella Kallas (JR, Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake HS) pitched her first collegiate shutout and her third collegiate complete game, allowing 10 hits and two walks. The Storm stranded 12 runners on base in the game.
• Hanson had two hits, including a double, while Dale, Evenson, Lehman and Bailey Zenk (JR, Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS) also had base hits. Dale, Zenk, Kallas, Lehman and Hanson all scored runs.

FOR THE FOES
• Liz Kemp had five hits, including a double, with two RBI to lead Crown, while Zoe Roberts had four hits. Samantha Collins hit two doubles and scored two runs.
• Olivia Christopherson struck out 10 while walking two to pick up the pitching win and shutout in the first game.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg hosts Northland (Wis.) in a nonconference doubleheader on Tuesday (3/10) at 4 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
