Balanced attack lifts Auggies to win over Scots

MINNEAPOLIS -- With a balanced attack that produced 476 yards of total offense, the Augsburg University football team scored a 37-29 victory over Macalester College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Skyline Division game on Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg produced a season-high 214 rushing yards on 44 carries, including a career-high 125 yards on 23 carries by Isaiah Thompson (SO, Detroit Lakes, Minn./Detroit Lakes HS). Tre Lee (JR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) rushed eight times for 51 yards and scored two touchdowns, a two-yard run in the third quarter and a nine-yard run late in the game to cap the Auggie scoring.
• Cade Sheehan (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) completed 22-of-32 passes for 262 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Augsburg offense. 
• Dominic Smith (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) caught five passes for 107 yards, his fourth 100-plus-yard receiving game of the season, catching touchdown passes of five and 33 yards in the first half.
• Defensive back Marcus Kimbrough (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) tied a single-game Augsburg school record with three interceptions, while adding four tackles (three solo) and a pass breakup. He tied a school record set four times previously -- by Gene Parrish in 1966, Bill Kriesel in 1992, Jason Exley in 1997 and Nate Loughran in 1999.
Braden Tretter (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) caught seven passes for 57 yards and a 20-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, and Josiah Ferguson (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) caught six passes for 59 yards, including a 16-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter.
Lionel Gates (JR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had 10 tackles (five solo), while Hamsa Kahin (FY, Edina, Minn./Edina HS) and Justin Tverberg (SO, Farmington, Minn./Hastings HS) had six tackles and a sack each. Sydney Royalty (JR, Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King HS) also had an interception and a pass breakup.

FOR THE FOES
• Michael Nadeau completed 24-of-38 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns, both to Rex Desso. Desso caught 10 passes for 120 yards.
• Kian Sohrabi rushed 15 times for 89 yards and a first-quarter touchdown. Logan Pampel also scored on a five-yard touchdown run.
• Josh Strickler had 14 tackles (six solo) and a sack to lead the Scots' defense, while Brady Thompson had 13 tackles (five solo). Max Menache recorded a safety for the Scots in the first quarter.

• Augsburg hosts Hamline next Saturday (10/23) at 1 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field in an MIAC Skyline Division game. It's the annual battle for "The Hammer" trophy between the two metro schools.
