MINNEAPOLIS -- Kayla Gjerde (SR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) led the Augsburg University volleyball team to a 3-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sweep over the College of Saint Benedict, finishing with 11 kills and 10 digs on Saturday night at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
• The Auggies won the first set, never trailing the Bennies. However, Saint Benedict took an early 5-2 lead in the second set before Augsburg slowly chipped away at the deficit and then went on a 5-0 run to take the lead 11-8, never giving up the lead in an eventual 25-22 win. The third and final set was very close between the two teams, with 15 tie scores and seven lead changes. Augsburg battled hard at the end, overcoming four set-point chances for the Bennies and going on a three-point run to win the set 28-26, claiming the match victory. 
• Augsburg used a balanced attack to claim the victory, hitting .279 as a team in the match while holding Saint Benedict to a .175 clip and earning six team blocks. 
• Corrina Evans (SR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) finished with nine kills -- hitting at an impressive .600 percentage -- with no attack errors on 15 swings, adding two block assists. Also earning nine kills was Kevin Boysen (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS), who added a block assist. 
• Izzy Barr (SR, River Falls, Wis./River Falls HS) collected her second assist-dig double-double of the year with 24 assists and 13 digs, also adding two aces. Fellow setter Lexie Lang (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had 15 assists, five digs and two kills. 
• Maddie Nierengarten (SR, Foley, Minn./Princeton HS) led Augsburg defensively with 19 digs, chipping in seven kills and a block assist. Finishing with 10 digs and a service ace was Angel Khang (SO, Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul HS).
• Brianna Van Well (SO, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) had six kills and four blocks (two solo). Mikayla Coops (SO, Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine HS) finished with five kills and a block assist. 

FOR THE FOES
• Olivia Thompson and Gabby Heying both finished with 11 kills for the Bennies. 
• Emma Guest collected team-high 17 digs, adding eight kills. Audrey Spolidoro earned an assist-dig double-double with 36 assists and 14 digs.
