Auggie women drop conference opener at Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- A pair of goals in the opening three minutes of the third period snapped a scoreless draw, as Hamline University claimed a 3-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey victory over visiting Augsburg University on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The teams played a scoreless first 40 minutes of action, with Hamline outshooting Augsburg 11-4 in the first period, and Augsburg outshooting Hamline 15-6 in the second. But the Pipers scored a pair of goals 50 seconds apart early in the third period, and a power-play goal midway through the frame gave the hosts a 3-0 advantage.
• Lilia Scheid (SR, Stillwater, Minn./Middleton (Wis.) HS) scored an extra-attacker goal at the 19:01 mark for Augsburg's lone goal of the contest.
• Augsburg held a 32-31 advantage in shots on-goal in the game. Scheid had eight shots on-goal, while Hannah Gold (SR, Mequon, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) had five shots. Katie Flynn (JR, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS), Sydney Rydel (SO, Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and Kensie Malone (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Gentry Academy HS) had three shots each.
• Mara McClain (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) had 28 saves in goal for the Auggies.

• Sophie Rausch, Michaela Arnold and Elizabeth Valley scored goals for Hamline, and Cheyenne Abear had a pair of assists.
