Augsburg women's basketball falls to UW-River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- Despite a career-high 29 points and a double-double from Jen Masello (SR, Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South HS), the Augsburg University women's basketball team fell to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 77-58 in nonconference action on Wednesday evening at Don Page Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The game remained close in the opening minutes, with UW-River Falls carrying a 9-8 lead at the midpoint of the first quarter. The Falcons managed to extend the lead late in the first, taking a 22-16 lead into the break.
• The second quarter was another back-and-forth affair with UW-River Falls edging the Auggies 18-14 to take a 10-point lead into halftime.
• Augsburg began to claw back into the game in the third quarter, going on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to seven with around five minutes remaining in the quarter. The Auggies outscored the Falcons 16-12 in the third and entered the fourth down by six points. The Falcons took control in the final frame, outscoring the Auggies 25-21 to secure the 19-point victory.
• The Auggies were the stronger team in the paint, outscoring the Falcons by a margin of 30-24.
• Masello was dominant all over the court for Augsburg, notching a career-high 29 points on 13-of-23 shooting and adding 13 rebounds for the double-double. 
Selena Lor (SR, Winona, Minn./Winona HS) and Kalena Myers (SO, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) put up nine points each to go along with three rebounds, three steals, and two assists for Lor and four assists, one rebound, and one steal for Myers.
Kevin Boysen (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had a solid game off the bench, scoring six points and recording three rebounds.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Wednesday's game was the eighth meeting all time between the two teams, with UW-River Falls now holding a 6-2 advantage in the series.

 FOR THE FOES
• The Falcons were led by a strong night from Colie Justice as she notched 26 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor.
• Jenna Zeman, Macy Nilsen, and Katelyn Karch also got into double figures for UW-River Falls.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg will return to action on Saturday (11/20) at 1 p.m., opening up MIAC play against Hamline University at Hutton Arena in St. Paul, Minn.
