Auggie women tie Saints, edged 2-1 in shootout

MINNEAPOLIS -- Kennedy Stein (SO, Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest HS) tied the game at 2-2 with an unassisted goal in the third period, and added an assist on her team's second-period goal, as the Augsburg University women's hockey team claimed a 2-2 tie with the College of St. Scholastica on Friday night. The Saints edged the Auggies 2-1 in the shootout to gain the bonus Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference point.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Trailing 1-0 after one period, Augsburg tied the game 76 seconds into the second period, as Kensie Malone (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Gentry Academy HS) scored her second goal of the season, putting home a rebound off a shot in front by Stein. Lilia Scheid (SR, Stillwater, Minn./Middleton (Wis.) HS) received the second assist on the goal.
• Stein scored her second goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2 at the 5:26 mark of the third period, stealing the puck from a St. Scholastica player at center ice and driving forward, placing a soft shot that trickled through the Saints' goalkeeper.
• The teams played a scoreless five-minute, 3-on-3 overtime, with the Auggies outshooting the Saints by a 7-4 margin in the frame, forcing the shootout for the bonus point in the MIAC standings. The Saints topped the Auggies 2-1 in the shootout, with Katie Flynn (JR, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) scoring the Auggie goal.
• Augsburg outshot St. Scholastica by a 34-24 margin in the game. Flynn, Scheid, Stein and Jenna Gerold (JR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) had four shots on-goal each.
Chloe Stockinger (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had 22 saves in goal for the Auggies.

FOR THE FOES
• Lauryn Hull and Kayla Kasel scored goals for St. Scholastica, and Taylor Murray and Kasel had the goals for the Saints in the shootout.
• Lori Huseby had 32 saves for St. Scholastica.
