Auggies fall to Falcons

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Augsburg University men's basketball team saw its six-game winning streak snapped on Thursday evening with an 86-67 loss to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls at Don Page Arena in nonconference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Falcons jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the game, but the Auggies played them close through most of the first half. Joe Palmer (JR, Faribault, Minn./Faribault HS) tied the game at 21-21 for Augsburg with 7:30 remaining in the first half, but a 10-0 run for UW-River Falls quickly put the Falcons back on top. At the half, the Auggies trailed 45-34.
• The Auggies cut the deficit to nine points early in the second half, but the Falcons remained in control and never surrendered the lead on their way to the victory.
• Palmer finished as the scoring leader once again for Augsburg, recording 18 points on 8-of-19 shooting and falling just one rebound shy of another double-double with nine boards in the game.
• Jack Sorenson (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) was efficient with his shots, connecting on five of his eight attempts from the floor for 17 points in the contest.
Matt Carik (SR, Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) was the only other Auggie to finish in double figures with 11 points on four of 10 shooting.
Bradley Winter (JR, Winona, Minn./Winona HS) tallied eight points in the game while Conner Knoepfle (SR, Andover, Minn./Andover HS) added seven points.
•  Will Schmidt tied for the team-high in rebounds with nine to go along with a steal and two points.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The game marked the 12th meeting all-time between the two programs, with Augsburg now holding a 9-3 advantage in the series.

FOR THE FOES
• The Falcons' scoring attack was anchored by the duo of Rodrick Payne with 26 points and Noah Hanson with 24 points in the game.

UP NEXT
• The Auggies will now travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. for games against Stevenson University (Md.) on December 19 at 5 p.m. and DePauw University (Ind.) on December 20 at 7 p.m. as part of the Daytona Beach Shootout.
