Auggie men stay perfect with win at Concordia

MINNEAPOLIS -- The perfect start to the 2021-22 season for the No. 4-ranked Augsburg University men's hockey team continued on Friday, as the Auggies claimed a 3-1 win at Concordia College-Moorhead in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Friday evening.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 3, Concordia-Moorhead 1
LOCATION: Moorhead Sports Center, Moorhead, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 7-0-0 overall (3-0-0 MIAC), Concordia-Moorhead 4-4-2 overall (2-2-1 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies struck first at the 16:32 mark of the first period, as Grant Reichenbacher (JR, Verona, Wis./Madison Edgewood HS) backhanded home a rebound off a shot by Fritz Belisle (JR, Red Wing, Minn./Roseville Area HS), following a rush by Erik Palmqvist (JR, Linkoping, Sweden/Anderstorpsgymnasiet).
• Augsburg took a 2-0 lead 34 seconds into the second period, as Jarod Blackowiak (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) scored an unusual power-play goal. He took a one-timer from the slot off a pass by Austin Martinsen (SR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS). The shot rebounded into the air off the goalie's pad, and Blackowiak sprinted in and swatted it home for his third goal of the season.
• Augsburg clinched the victory with a long empty-net, power-play goal by Austin Dollimer (SR, Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS), firing the puck from near his defensive red line with 1:05 remaining.
• Concordia outshot Augsburg by a 24-21 margin in the game. Auggie goalie Jack Robbel (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) stopped 23 straight shots before surrendering a Cobber goal with 18 seconds left in the contest.
