Cronkhite's first hat trick lifts Auggies to victory

SUPERIOR, Wis. -- Led by the first collegiate hat trick for Emily Cronkhite (FY, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS), the Augsburg University women's hockey team scored its second victory in a row, a 4-2 nonconference triumph at the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Cronkhite claimed her second collegiate multi-goal game and first hat trick, opening the scoring with a goal from Kensie Malone (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Gentry Academy HS) and Claire Jenkins Coffman (SO, Mount Pleasant, Wis./The Prairie School) at the 7:07 mark of the first period. She scored her second goal at the 1:09 mark of the second period, assisted by Elizabeth Fagerlind (FY, Kasson, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville HS) and Hannah Gold (SR, Mequon, Wis./University School of Milwaukee), and completed her hat trick with a power-play goal from Payton Allen (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) with two minutes to go in the second period.
• UW-Superior cut the lead to 3-2 with a pair of goals bracketing the end of the second period and start of the third period, but Augsburg scored a key insurance goal at the 2:37 mark of the final frame, as Jenna Gerold (JR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) collected an unassisted goal.
• Both teams had 25 shots on-goal in the game. Mara McClain (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) had 23 saves in goal for the Auggies to pick up her second win of the season.
• Brooke Leone (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had six shots on-goal for the Auggies, while Gerold and Malone had three shots each.

FOR THE FOES
• Coz Cora and Jenna Byfuglien scored goals for UW-Superior.
• McKenzie Whalen had 21 saves for the Yellowjackets.
