Auggie women edged in OT by Gusties

MINNEAPOLIS -- Jenna Gerold (SO, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) and McKenna Ellena (SR, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) tied the game for Augsburg University with power-play goals in the third period, but Gustavus Adolphus College got the game-winner 3:14 into overtime, in a 3-2 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Thursday afternoon at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Trailing 2-0 after two periods, Augsburg scored 5:40 into the third period, as Gerold got a centering pass from Lilia Scheid (JR, Stillwater, Minn./Middleton (Wis.) HS) and snapped a wrist shot for her first goal of the season, a power-play marker. Kensie Malone (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Gentry Academy HS) had the second assist on the goal.
• The Auggies tied the game on another power play, as Kalli Prekker (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) started the puck up the ice, feeding Malone, who fired a perfect diagonal pass to a streaking Ellena. Ellena fired a top-shelf goal to tie the game at the 15:51 mark of the period.
• The Auggies were outshot by a 30-17 mark in the game, but Chloe Stockinger (FY, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS), making her first collegiate start and second appearance in goal, claimed 27 saves.
• Ellena had five shots on-goal for the Auggies, while Gerold had three shots and Hannah Gold (JR, Mequon, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) had two shots.

FOR THE FOES
• Brooke Power scored on a 2-on-1 break, taking a feed from Hailey Holland to score the game-winning goal at the 3:14 mark of overtime for Gustavus.
• Sophia Coltvet and Molly McHugh also scored goals for the Gusties.
• Katie McCoy had nine saves in the first two periods for Gustavus, while Emilia Helms-Leslie had six saves in the third period and overtime.
